The Stonewall Inn Today
The Stonewall Inn isn’t just a bar, it’s the bar. Sitting loud and proud in the heart of Greenwich Village, this is where Pride kicked off and where the party and the purpose never stopped. Known around the world as NYC’s most iconic gay bar, Stonewall was ground zero for the 1969 uprising that changed everything. What started as a local hangout became a global symbol of standing up, showing up, and never backing down.
Fast forward to today and Stonewall is very much alive and thriving. It’s a place where history meets happy hour, packed with drag shows that bring the house down, dance parties that go late, fundraisers with heart, and community moments that actually mean something. The vibe is fun, welcoming, and unapologetically inclusive. Whether you’re a regular, a first timer, or just wandered in looking for a good time, you belong here.
Sure, it’s a National Historic Landmark, but don’t let that fool you. This isn’t a look but don’t touch kind of place. It’s neon lights, loud music, strong drinks, and even stronger community. A spot where you can celebrate who you are while honoring the folks who made it possible to do so openly.
So whether you’re bar hopping the Village, visiting NYC’s most famous gay bar, or just want to dance where history was made, The Stonewall Inn delivers. Come for the drinks, stay for the energy, and leave knowing you were part of something bigger. At Stonewall, Pride lives, love wins, and the night is always magical.
Where Pride, Unity, and History Come Alive
The Stonewall Inn, right in the middle of Greenwich Village, isn’t just a place to grab a drink, it’s a place where people finally said “enough.” This is the bar where Pride was born, where a fed up community pushed back in June of 1969 and turned a regular neighborhood spot into the launchpad for a worldwide movement. What went down here wasn’t quiet or polite, it was loud, messy, brave, and absolutely necessary.
And let’s be clear, this story wouldn’t be complete without giving flowers to Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson. These two trans women of color didn’t just show up that night, they showed up for life. They fought like hell for the people society tried hardest to ignore, especially trans folks, queer youth, and anyone without a safe place to land. After Stonewall, they kept going, co founding STAR, now known as the Street Transgender Action Revolutionaries, creating shelter, support, and community when nobody else would. Absolute legends.
Today, Stonewall is still doing what it does best. It’s a historic landmark, sure, but it’s also a living, breathing bar packed with energy. The walls have seen a lot, and they’re still watching new memories get made every night. People come in to honor the past, but they stay because the vibe is real and the community is alive.
Drag shows light up the room, dance floors get sweaty, fundraisers turn partying into purpose, and rallies remind everyone that the fight isn’t over. It’s joy with a backbone. Celebration with teeth. A reminder that dancing, laughing, and loving out loud can be acts of resistance all on their own.
Stonewall isn’t about one night in history. It’s about what happens when people refuse to disappear. The spirit of Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson lives on every time someone walks through those doors and feels seen, safe, and powerful. This place stands for love, defiance, and showing up exactly as you are.
So whether you’re here to remember, to dance, to raise a glass, or to stand shoulder to shoulder with the community, know this. The Stonewall Inn isn’t done. We’re still here, still loud, still fighting, and still having one hell of a time doing it.
The Stonewall Inn IPA by Brooklyn Brewery
Since 2017, The Stonewall Inn has proudly partnered with Brooklyn Brewery to create The Stonewall Inn IPA, a bold and spirited session IPA brewed in support of the Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative (SIGBI). This partnership is more than a collaboration; it is a commitment to equality, visibility, and the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights.
The Stonewall Inn IPA is fearless and unapologetic, just like the community it represents. With bright notes of citrus peel and grapefruit, this refreshing beer is brewed to honor the courage of the past while celebrating the progress of today and the promise of tomorrow. It is a beer for everyone, without exception, embodying the values of inclusivity and acceptance that were born out of the Stonewall Uprising.
In 2019, The Stonewall Inn proudly celebrated the 50th anniversary of the historic Stonewall Uprising and welcomed WorldPride to New York City. To commemorate this milestone in LGBTQ+ history, Brooklyn Brewery joined forces with The Stonewall Inn to craft The Stonewall Inn IPA, ensuring that a portion of the proceeds would directly support SIGBI, the official charitable organization of The Stonewall Inn. In 2021, this partnership expanded globally, introducing the Stonewall Inn IPA to queer communities worldwide and amplifying the mission of equality on an international scale.
The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative is dedicated to carrying forward the legacy of the Stonewall Uprising by providing essential educational and financial resources to grassroots organizations that support LGBTQ+ people. SIGBI’s mission focuses especially on LGBTQ+ youth in rural and underserved areas, offering advocacy, guidance, and shelter where it is most critically needed. By raising awareness and funds through initiatives like the Stonewall Inn IPA, SIGBI strengthens the fight for LGBTQ+ rights both in the United States and abroad.
When you raise a glass of The Stonewall Inn IPA, you are not just enjoying a craft beer; you are standing in solidarity with a global movement. You are helping to amplify LGBTQ+ voices, protect vulnerable communities, and keep the spirit of Stonewall alive for future generations. Together, we can honor the past, uplift the present, and build a future rooted in equality, acceptance, and pride.

The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative (SIGBI) is a nonprofit charitable organization rooted in the legacy of the Stonewall Uprising and committed to advancing the fight for LGBTQ+ rights worldwide. Its mission is to provide educational, strategic, and financial assistance to grassroots organizations that are on the frontlines of advocacy and support for LGBTQ+ communities. These groups often operate in environments where social intolerance, discrimination, and systemic barriers continue to create fear and hardship for queer individuals, especially those who are most vulnerable.
A central focus of SIGBI’s work is uplifting and protecting LGBTQ+ youth, who are disproportionately affected by homelessness, bullying, and rejection. In rural and underserved areas, safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth are few and far between, leaving many without resources or support networks. SIGBI partners with grassroots organizations to ensure that these young people not only have access to shelter and guidance but also to the affirmation and advocacy they need to thrive. By equipping local leaders with the tools and funding to create inclusive programs, SIGBI empowers youth to embrace their identities without fear and to see themselves as valued members of their communities.
Beyond youth support, the Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative expands its reach to amplify the work of grassroots organizations across the United States and worldwide. Whether funding community centers, providing leadership training, or building campaigns for equality, SIGBI continues the spirit of Stonewall by standing with those who refuse to be silenced. Each effort is a reminder that LGBTQ+ rights are human rights and that the legacy of Stonewall is not just about looking back at history, but actively shaping a more inclusive and just future.
By supporting SIGBI, individuals and organizations invest in the protection of LGBTQ+ rights, the empowerment of young people, and the creation of safe spaces where love, resilience, and authenticity can flourish.
