The Stonewall Inn in New York City's Greenwich Village became a historic symbol of the LGBTQ+ rights movement following a series of protests that began there on June 28, 1969. At the time, police raids on LGBTQ+ bars were common, but that night, patrons of the Stonewall Inn fought back against the police harassment and discrimination. What started as resistance to an unexpected raid quickly escalated into days of protests, sparking a pivotal moment in the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights.
